Germany’s Super Election Year 2009

This year is super election year in Germany, with voters in five states to cast their ballots and a nationwide vote scheduled for September.
This time it might be a fundamental shift in the country’s political landscape, since the FDP, at the moment the most popular of three opposition groups, might play a rule as the traditional kingmaker in German politics again.
The 47-year-old FDP chairman of eight years Guido Westerwelle was re-elected uncontested to the post by 95.8 per cent of delegates, will lead the Free Democrats (FDP) into September’s elections and is a strong option for becoming the next German foreign minister / Secretary of State after September’s national elections.
